We have had a rollercoaster of emotions concerning the rescue of Thokozile (Thoko) and death of Momotheka (Momo) of the Gurangwenya pack at the same time and spot.
It is the first time in the history of the PDC project a dog is found alive in a snare that’s pinned to a tree, let alone two dogs.
Saturday, September 24th seems to be a "normal" day to be in the Bush:
8:56 AM: Bingo! Washington picks up the radio signal from the collar of Thokozile. We stop to determine the direction of the signal. The signal comes from behind on our left. We turn around and the signal gets louder. At 6:45 AM Washington, the tracker of the PDC project, is already waiting. Together with his colleagues Jealous, head tracker, and Ishmael, vet, he is the team, that will take us to find the Gurangwenya pack, named after the same river. The Land Rovers take us through the rocky trails with steep slopes. 05.45 AM Driving with guests of the Painted Dog sponsor trip from Camp Kapula to Sinamatella, a mountainous region in the northwest of Hwange National Park.
